ANNA L. NEWBURY

 ACTOR . CREATOR. THEATRE MAKER.

The Games: The Acting Exercise

A Game: a place where ingenuity and inventiveness appears to meet the obstacle of the Game. Skills are developed at the very moment when all the fun and excitement is occurring, at the very moment that the individual is open to receive them. A game facilitates an actor's ability to transcend themselves and focus frees them to "go out into the environment, explore, adventure and face all dangers unafraid." A game is a perfect environment to foster intuition, spontaneity and ingenuity. Through the structure of the game, each actor chooses "self-discipline" by adhering to the rules and objective of the game. They engage in group decision with enthusiasm and trust. With no one to please or appease they can focus their full energy and concentration

onto the problem and learn what he or she has come to learn.
