SPACE: DEFYING GRAVITY
The human being is an incredible thing. What is a "being" made up of? Well of course we have the body, mind, and spirit. But if we begin to dig deeper, to search for the finer details, we find the skeletal structure, muscular structure, the circulatory, respiratory, digestive, reproductive, neurological systems. All of which can be divided into their own parts and pieces, down to a molecular level, at which point we then encounter the energy that creates all matter. The root of existence. The energy that binds the universe into matter. One of the things I have been exploring is the presence of gravity in space and the toll that it takes on the human being. At the heart of it's nature it presses down upon us or perhaps it pulls at us like a magnet. What has come to my attention is the incredible strength that each human being has to resist that force. We rage against "the weight of nothing". Gravity an invisible partner. What force is it within each of us that allows us to stand tall in resistance to the gravitational force, seemingly working against us at times. Whatever it is within us that allows a being to stand vertically in space, truly is a powerful force because we not only are able to stand tall against it but we are able to find ease of movement within it. Dancers defy gravity, athletes, riders,
all performing what would seem to be impossible tasks in opposition to gravity. Going back to the systems of the body, it is fascinating the roles that the muscles play in defying gravity. They are capable of lifting the bones of the body into the air without pushing off, without any other aid than their own strength. If we were made a little more aerodynamically their is no reason we could not fly.
